Master National Events

The Master National is a hunt test conducted under the rules and regulations of the AKC Hunt Test program and is licensed by the American Kennel Club. This national event is held each year in a location determined by a system of rotation through each of the 4 time zones.

Qualifying Scores
To qualify for the Master National event, a dog (with the exception below) must have a total of 6 qualifications each year in the Master category from a MN member club(s). In addition, every dog running in the MN event must also have an MH title from the AKC.

Exception to the above: Contestants who enter exclusively in Alaska must obtain qualifying scores in a minimum of four Master tests by member clubs and have an MH title.

Dogs, domiciled in Canada, running exclusively in CKC Master Hunt Test events, that passed the most recent CKC Canadian Master National Hunt Test prior to the July 31st MNRC qualifying end date.

Time Frame
Qualifying scores for the upcoming Master National event are counted from August 1st of the year before the event through July 31st of the year of the event.

Qualifying Scores - Exception
Any dog that ran and qualified at the previous year's Master National event needs only 4 qualifications during the next year to qualify to run the upcoming MN event.

 

Pat McHale of Ridgewood Kennels made his Master National debut in September of 2008. He brought with him four of his top Master Hunter retrievers and three of them returned home as 2008 Master National Qualifiers. In October 2009 Pat again took four of his top Master Hunters and two of them came home as 2009 Master National Qualifiers, thus each earning their 2nd MN pass. In October 2010 two of Pat's top Master Hunters made the trec with him to Corning California, one of them returned home with a Qualifying Score and the newly AKC recognized Master National Hunter MNH title. This being her 3rd MN Qualifying Score, she earned the privilage of being accepted into the Master National Hall of Fame.
